My counselling approach.

My counselling approach.   Brian Dennis counselling.

I help people to help themselves. People who take the first step of recognizing that help is advisable and available are courageous - they understand that they can improve their well-being, their happiness and their relationships with others. Coming to counselling, with the aim to improve their situation, is a big decision. I know and acknowledge that.   They are also trying to improve their own lives and those of the people around them.

My counselling is based on the  methods of person-centred counselling, which understands that each person aims to improve their own well-being  in their own manner. I  also use other methods that will help each client in the best way, including Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, NLP, Positive Therapy, etc. I integrate those different methods in counselling sessions to provide the most appropriate methods of helping each client.

I tailor each session to each client. The counselling sessions are yours. I invite clients to tell me of any preferences that they have, as well as  any types of counselling that they may not wish to engage in. Some people have previous experiences of counselling and realise what was  effective for them. All people are different,  clients bring their varied problems and issues to my counselling practise, where I work with all clients as seperate individuals.

I realise that clients have "ups and downs".  Counselling can be  challenging  in many ways, there will  be days when the challenge is easier to focus on than others. I understand those differences and work with them.

Focusing on the present and the future and what you want in your life forms a large part of my counselling.

We live in the present. This is the time for the enjoyment of "the now". The past has happened, it can only be a memory. The future has not yet happened, it can only be anticipated.
